Old Friends, Fresh Nerves

Last week my "BESTEST" (besides my twin sister of course...and yes, I made up the word "bestest") friend from high school reached out to me to take some impromptu photos for her and her fiancé’s "save-the-date" cards that will be sent out ahead of their wedding this coming July. Without hesitation I emphatically agreed.

But wait...

This session was different. It was for a friend... A good friend. And one that I hadn't seen in years. (Yes, I absolutely am awful about maintaining friendships, but that's not what this post is about.) In rushed the nerves! Yes, I have been doing portraiture now for several years and while every session comes with a pang of nerves that quickly dissipate; not this time, the nerves were there constantly. I don't know what it was about photographing a friend I hadn't seen in so long, but it rattled me! While if you asked them, they probably would be kind and say they hadn't noticed, but man, I fiddled and fiddled with my camera and flash settings as if I had not been photographing very long. Or at least it felt like it to me. Perhaps it wasn't as bad as it seemed...I hope.

On the bright side, I LOVED reconnecting with my great friend Vanessa and getting to meet her super fiancé. Seriously, David really seems like a great guy and you can really tell they love each other. Seeing this connection is so awesome for a photographer; I seriously love it, but seeing it from the perspective of the photographer AND a friend, couldn't ask for more!

So to Vanessa and David, congratulations and thank you for making the drive to visit me. I pray we can stay in touch this time...we have so much time we need to cover!

So on to the good stuff - the photos! Enjoy you two, I know I sure enjoyed capturing your love for each other...once I got over the nerves.
